Product Care

Leather

Leather is a natural material which needs to be looked after in order to sustain it's beauty. When you receive your new leather product, we highly advised you apply a water and stain protector to your piece before use. As leather is porous, applying a water and stain protector to your leather seals the surface and protects it from absorbing dyes, water and oils that it comes into contact with.

Some leathers Alegorie carries are distressed and may appear to have scratches or patchy colouring. This effect has been done on purpose and should not be considered flawed or faulty. It has been done to recreate a vintage, worn-in feel to the product. Despite their distressing, vintage-feel leathers may be stiff but will supple with use.

When storing your leather product do not keep it in plastic or other non-breathable fabrics. Alegorie advises against using leather conditioners or cream based products on leather products as they can stain porous leathers and ruin the finish on metallic leathers.

If you are unsure how to take care of your leather product visit a leather care professional.

Costume Jewellery

Costume jewellery is fun and easy to wear, and generally maintenance free. Costume metal may contain nickel and vintage metals contain unknown alloys. If you suffer from reactions to some metal jewellery it is recommended that you do not wear costume jewellery for a long periods at a time. Many jewellery items feature delicate components such as resin cameos or genuine swarovski crystal. These components are beautiful and dazzling, but are fragile. If they are dropped or mistreated they can break or shatter.

To protect your new jewellery from tarnish we advise storing it in a cool, dry place, such as the lovely flocked pouch it comes with. Put your costume jewellery on after you have applied all perfume and creams. It is not a good idea to sleep in your jewellery, and  we strongly recommend that you do not wear it in water or expose it to water.

Do not use conventional cleaning products on your costume jewellery. If you wish to restore the polished finish use a silver polishing cloth as found in the cleaning aisle of most supermarkets.
